The ERN-LUNG Academy has almost finished its second year and starts its campaign for the year 2025. I am lucky enough to work together with Thomas Koudstaal, pulmonologist from Erasmus University Rotterdam, on its academic content. On the whole, 84 students have already benefitted from the numerous Webinars prepared by our highly specialized clinicians. Most of the students were able to complete the curriculum by spending a week of observational stay in one of our many specialized centers.
They came from 16 EU countries, and from a few neighbouring countries (Ukraine, Serbia, etc.). They were incredibly happy to go and see how rare respiratory diseases are handled in Dublin, Aarhus, Lyon, Paris, Rotterdam, Barcelona, Bologna and many other of our centers. We had exclusively positive feedback, the only complaint being that 1 week of observational stay is probably a bit too short. However, if we want large participation, we will not be able to offer longer stays – budgetary limits have the last word here.
But first of all: thank you to those who provided us with this very valuable educational material.
Secondly: thank you to those who are never afraid of taking in our participants for a week for their practical stay, even though it means that you dedicate some of your time and you have to switch to English to be able to communicate!
And thirdly: please spread the word of the Academy around you. We are certain that young (or not so young) medical doctors, specialized nurses or physiotherapists of your departments can benefit from our curriculum. For that, just send around this link: https://ern-lung.eu/our-expertise/education/ern-lung-academy/ Applications for next year are accepted until Dec 1st.
In the next 2-3 years, we will almost certainly have to introduce an examination at the end of the curriculum, which is a requirement from the European Commission. We will have to think about the best way to do it, without scaring off future applicants, while keeping a good level of knowledge, adapted to the background of each participant.
Training and education remain a top priority at ERN-LUNG! |
