The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) organized the third major conference for an EU commitment to tackling rare diseases on 29 November 2024, at the Budapest Congress Centre in Hungary. At the request of the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU, the EESCโs exploratory opinion on “Leaving No One Behind: European Commitment to Tackling Rare Diseases” was drawn up to disseminate the Committeeโs proposals. These proposals were based on the conclusions of its opinions and conferences held during the previous and current trio presidencies.
The conference aimed to provide a set of recommendations to encourage the establishment of a European policy framework for rare diseases. It sought to bring together a concerted strategy in the fields of research, digital innovation, healthcare, and social protection, complement existing legislation, and encourage further investment in rare diseases both at the EU and national levels.
