CPMS Panel Discussion

DATE:ย  18 Feb 2026
TIME: 15:00 – 16:00

Case description:

It is about complex arteriovenous malformations of the right lung in a now 5 year old boy. The child became symptomatic shortly after birth with tachydyspnea and low oxygen saturation. The patient already underwent two sessions of transcatheter embolization of various feeding vessels at the age of both two and six months without immediate complications and showed a stable clinical course over the past years. Most recently, the patientโ€™s condition has deteriorated significantly and he is now presenting with a significant progress of the arteriovenous malformation including right-to-left shunting resulting in an SpO2 of 80%, digital clubbing and reduced excercise tolerance. We now aim to surgically resect the affected lung segments. The segments affected have consistently been the same since birth, no malformations have ever been demonstrated via angiographic imaging in other lung segments. However, the extensive nature of the condition as well as the large vessel calibers make management challenging, so any adviceโ€”also with regard to a possible underlying systemic diseaseโ€”is very welcome.
