Webinar Series on Innovative Financing for Rare Diseases (online)

DATE:ย  23 Apr 2026
TIME: 14:00 – 15:00
Most rare diseases currently lack approved therapies, leaving millions of patients without adequate medical care. This situation is largely due to structural deficiencies in healthcare financing systems, which were not developed to accommodate the specific requirements of rare diseases.
This introductory session analyzes the factors contributing to these financing challenges. Key issues to be discussed include limited patient populations, high therapy costs, Health Technology Assessment (HTA) constraints, fragmented risk-sharing mechanisms, and short-term budgetary limitations. The session aims to identify the systemic gaps that result in inequitable access to diagnosis and treatment.
Drawing on global data, the webinar will establish a framework for evaluating innovative financing models. The objective is to reach a consensus on where such solutions can most effectively improve health equity.
