Dear all,
How much nicer it would be to have a signed contract for the upcoming years, but we still don’t. Fortunately, we are allowed to spend the money “as if” – but there is always some uncertainty for this kind of state between contracts. I am optimistic though that we will be able to settle all open questions and I certainly will let you look into our plans of the next four years during the Annual Board Meeting (Feb 19/20).
We will look towards what we want to be doing and hope being able to achieve – there are quite a few fascinating new cutting-edge projects. The ERN-LUNG Future Strategy Working Group has met and Marc Humbert, ERN-LUNG’s vice coordinator, has jumped in to moderate this meeting while the coordinator was stuck in a plane with overheated brakes. Seems to be some kind of a “lucky coincidence”: Gathering and discussing ideas and thoughts for the future of ERN-LUNG is the “next generation” project, and therefore, more of a project for Marc than for me. Shaping the future of ERN-LUNG is of utmost importance and all of you are welcome to contribute. We keep discussing of how to better involve patients in all our plans and activities. Have you heard of our Transplant Working Group – a patient driven initiative? Another project that has already attracted a lot of interest and input from many members of ERN-LUNG is the newly formed Undiagnosed Patients Working Group. There are close relations to the new European Joint Action JARDIN on integration of ERNs and National Health Care Systems across European Member States – we will discuss this together with more interesting and challenging new plans during the Annual Board Meeting.
We are looking forward to meeting you in Frankfurt again, talking, listening, exchanging views, discussing and learning from the best – to the best of patients with rare or complex diseases of the respiratory system! That is what ERN-LUNG is all about – Come and let’s do it!
